Zoe Gyssler

the villager

The villager is a research project that explores character creation through the approach of movement and theatre. One part of the workshop will consist out of my own movement language research that I started to deepen with my solo work, the visitor. We will step into a movement research, where we will use isolation work to dismember a body into its pieces, give every piece its own brain, be taken by internal and external forces and use specific movement qualities. Through these elements we will explore how to disconnect body from state of mind and how to add theatrical elements to then create a multilayered, storytelling body. In that part, I am interested in how a body can become theatrical without being necessarily theatrical. As a second thing, I will guide you through your own individual character research, with biographies that will be prepared for you. Together, in a dialogue, we will explore your character, find your movement language pattern and set it. As a last thing, given theatrical situations will form a common ground for a structured improvisation for us to play in. you can find more information about the villager and the visitor on my website.

some workshops offer group improvisation or partnering. these workshops elements may or may not be possible and the teachers and choreographers will modify their workshops accordingly in line with the health and safety measures required at the time. please stay flexible. thank you!
